Clash Verge Rev FAQ: download, installation, configuration, and safety

Questions are ordered by the user task. Each answer points to a verifiable source, reversible action, or explicit next check rather than using reinstallation as a substitute for diagnosis.

platform and architecture choice

High-frequency questions

How do I confirm the correct file?

Compare repository owner, tag, filename, size, and checksum with official Releases. A mirror must not change those identifiers.

Should I choose x64 or arm64?

Use the architecture reported by the operating system. Intel/AMD PCs are usually x64; Apple Silicon and some Windows devices use arm64; Android users inspect ABI.

Does a security warning prove the file is unsafe?

Not necessarily, but never bypass it blindly. Verify source, signature, and hash first, then use the platform-specific review flow.

Installer or portable build?

Installers usually integrate updates and system components; portable builds isolate data and suit testing. Read the release notes for the project.

Why is an import empty?

Check URL validity, expected format, and the first explicit log error before changing client, core, and configuration at once.

System proxy or TUN?

System proxy affects applications that honor it. TUN captures more traffic at the network layer and adds permission and DNS complexity. Validate system proxy first.

It says connected but still fails. What next?

If the client says connected but traffic fails, check active configuration, endpoint health, system proxy, DNS, and TUN in that order. Change one layer at a time and preserve the original log error.

What should be backed up before an update?

Record current version, data path, required custom rules, and recovery data. Keep sensitive URLs out of public screenshots.

Should I disable antivirus or platform protection?

No. Verify source and hash, then use a narrow exception for a confirmed file if necessary; do not disable protection globally.

Can I share the full log?

Redact subscription URLs, tokens, usernames, IP addresses, paths, and recovery data while preserving timestamp, component, and error context.

Where do I check the version?

Use the client About page for the installed version and official Releases for published versions. Do not rely on a search snippet.

Will reinstalling fix every issue?

No. Invalid configuration, expired access, DNS, permissions, and stale system proxy settings can survive a reinstall while useful logs are lost.
