FAQ
What is Clash Verge? Is it free?
Clash Verge is an open-source, cross-platform proxy client written with the Tauri framework and powered by the Mihomo (formerly Clash Meta) core. It is completely free under the GPL-3.0 license — no purchases, no ads, no telemetry.
How does Clash Verge relate to Clash Verge Rev?
After the original author stopped maintaining Clash Verge in 2023, the community continued development as Clash Verge Rev, replacing the discontinued Clash core with the actively maintained Mihomo. Today “Clash Verge” almost always refers to the Rev branch, which is what this site links to.
Which operating systems are supported?
Windows 10 1809 or later (x64 / ARM64), macOS 10.15 or later (Intel / Apple Silicon), and mainstream Linux distributions via deb and rpm packages.
Which proxy protocols are supported?
Everything the Mihomo core speaks: Shadowsocks, ShadowsocksR, Vmess, VLESS, Trojan, Hysteria / Hysteria2, TUIC, WireGuard, Snell, HTTP(S) and SOCKS5, among others.
Do I need my own server or subscription?
Yes. Clash Verge is only a client and ships with no servers. You need a subscription URL from a provider, or your own server and a hand-written config.
Windows shows a SmartScreen warning — is the app safe?
Open-source projects rarely buy expensive code-signing certificates, so SmartScreen flags the unsigned installer as “unrecognized”. That is expected. As long as the file comes from the official GitHub Releases or this site's download links, click “Run anyway”. You can also verify the .sig signature.
System proxy or TUN mode — which should I use?
For everyday browser traffic, System Proxy is lighter and faster to toggle. Switch on TUN mode when games, command-line tools or UWP apps need to go through the proxy too. See the guide “System Proxy vs TUN mode” for details.
Will updating wipe my settings?
No. Install the new version right over the old one — profiles, rules and settings live in your user directory and survive upgrades. For extra safety, take a WebDAV or local backup first under Settings → Backup.
